Lusters and Metallics are beautiful overglaze finishes (colors applied to previously glazed and fired surfaces). Fired to cones 018-016, these products are usually the final touch to your piece. Lusters and Metallics take on whatever surface texture that are applied to -- a glossy surface gives you a shiny finish for example. Be sure to work and fire Lusters and Metallics in an area that is free from contamination by dust, dirt, smoke and moisture. Fire in a loosely packed, well ventilated kiln (see Orton Kiln pg 57 of print catalog). For your safety, provide good flow-through ventilation in your work area (make sure fumes exit to outside!), particularly during application and firing (see our spray booths.) Finally and with dedication, wear a properly equipped respirator and rubber gloves.
